Did You Know DHH's Gujju Jay-Z Was Going to Be a Scientist?

Dhanji has no sound, and that is exactly the point.

Experimentalism and originality often go together, and hip hop's saviour Dhanji is a testament to that.

Dhanji Kumar, born Jayraj Ganatra, spent years building in the underground, dropping seven mixtapes in 2020, each completely different from the last. While other rappers in the scene were finding their lane, he was building his own.

He had no label and no mainstream cosign. In fact, when "4424" with Siyaahi dropped, he was still studying physics in the USA, but eventually returned to Amdavad to pursue rap full time. He dropped a bunch of singles and the 2022 EP "Bagman," teasing a debut LP the entire time.

In 2023, everything changed. He dropped "RUAB."

People often find it hard to get into Dhanji because of his sound. But here is the thing. He does not have a sound. That is the entire point. While "RUAB" had a funk soundscape highlighting it, "Drive In Cinema" is completely trap based. He refuses to sit still, and that restlessness is exactly why he matters.
